Most people have had a bad experience with a decorator — the mess, the drift on the price, the job that never quite finishes. This page exists to kill that worry before you call: below is exactly how a Defining London job runs, from the first phone call to the walkthrough where you hold the snag list.
Every enquiry gets a reply the same working day, and a free visit is usually offered within the same week. The survey is where the price is built — we measure, sound the walls, count the coats and put the number in writing before anything is booked.
Floors are sheeted in breathable layers, furniture is grouped and covered, radiators come off the walls and runners go down on the high-traffic routes. Doorways are zipped and sanders run into extractors, because dust is the difference between a decorator and a mess.
Cracks are opened to solid edges and filled twice where the house has moved, old gloss is deglossed for a key, sashes are eased before painting and ceilings are washed down where years of living have left a film. Two-thirds of every budget is spent before the colour.
We use Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and Dulux Trade at the manufacturers' full spreading rates, with breathable systems where lime plaster needs them. Sample pots are tested on your walls before the litres are ordered — choosing from a card is how rooms get painted twice.
Tools are stored, sheets are lifted, edges are vacuumed and the hoover line goes round the room at close of play. You get your house back every night, and the programme keeps a liveable kitchen and bathroom at every stage.
The handover is done room by room with the snag list in your hand — once in daylight, once with the lamps on. Touch-ups are closed on the spot, the paint schedule is handed over in writing, and we ask for your honest review only when you are happy.
